Only 100 days to go until the 23rd Salzburg Marathon takes place. Then enthusiastic professional and amateur runners will compete over 42.195 kilometres or just the half. Last year's fourth-placed runner in the marathon is aiming for the latter. Andreas Stöckl has had other things on his mind in recent months.
The runner from Pinzgau was an Olympic participant, European Championship medallist and Austrian record holder. Now, at the age of 38, he is calling it a day.
Peter Herzog started running marathons around ten years ago. The former Austrian record holder announced the end of his career on Friday and explained in his Instagram post what motivated him to take this step.

The home victory is perfect. Lukas Hollaus crossed the finish line first at the Salzburg Marathon on Sunday. In the absence of top international athletes, the man from Pinzgau managed to complete the 42.195 kilometres in 2:17:20 hours. Local hero Cornelia Stöckl Moser came second in the women's race in heavy rain.
The winner of the 2025 Puma Salzburg Marathon is Lukas Hollaus. The Union Salzburg runner triumphed in his home town. Dominik Hirczy and Amelie Muss won the half marathon as part of the running festival in partly pouring rain.
Local hero Lukas Hollaus won the men's race at the Salzburg Marathon on Sunday - with a strong time. Eva Wutti from Carinthia came out on top in the women's race, ahead of Salzburg's Cornelia Stöckl-Moser.
However, Lukas Hollaus is now expecting more of a solo ride at his marathon premiere in Salzburg, as Peter Herzog has a bad case of cold. The start is this Sunday at 8.30 am on the Staatsbrücke.
The excitement is building as the Puma Salzburg Marathon takes place on Sunday. Many of the best runners have a home game.
