Emotional, inspiring, refreshing

Junior Marathon and a wide range of sports inspire at the Salzburg Marathon

Pure joy of movement: that could be seen and felt for a whole afternoon at the Saturday events of the 19th Salzburg Marathon. Salzburg celebrated a festival dedicated to youth sports, inclusion and running enthusiasm for a good cause. The extensive grounds in the Volksgarten were transformed at the Colorful sports palette into a large sports and exercise arena. At 16 stations, supervised by the Salzburg sports associations and clubs, children and young people could let off steam and get to know new sports opportunities. The junior marathon was an inspiring running competition with a great 1,080 registered young runners. Parents and families cheered, the kids did their best with lots of fun and experienced an atmospheric event.

“Salzburg is on the move. As organizers, we motivate people to exercise and make a sustainable contribution to an active lifestyle for children, young people and adults. This was expressed in a great way today, together with the commitment of the clubs and sports associations,” says organizer Johannes Langer.

The running competitions were opened with the mini marathon for the under six year olds. They ran a distance of about 500 meters around the pond in the Volksgarten without timekeeping. Parents were also allowed to accompany them. For school children and young people, competitions over 960 meters (U8 and U10) and over 1,920 meters (U12, U14, U16 and U18) were on the program. Enthusiasm and refreshing commitment turned it into a motivating sporting experience, which was celebrated with great applause. The fastest were allowed to experience a special moment at the award ceremony.

Many participants came to the start through their schools thanks to the commitment of the teachers. The commitment and the sense of community were awarded. The schools with the largest number of participants, in relation to the total size of the school, were the Franciscans and the WRG.
