15th Salzburg Marathon (May 6, 2018)

The city showed itself to the Running Festival in the City of Mozart from May 4th to 6th, 2018 from her chocolate side. Wonderful weather ensured that thousands of spectators lined the course and the participants enjoyed a special running experience.

In the men's marathon, two runners ran to the front of each other. The Kenyan Wesley Kemboy set himself apart from his competitors in the first half of the race, which was still cooler due to a light cloud cover, and won in a time of 2:19:26 hours. The Kenyan, who lives in Linz, celebrated second place Isaac Kosgei in a personal best of 2:20:59 hours over his first national championship title in the marathon. As third overall, Christian Kresnik caused a sensation and was happy about the silver medal ahead of Endris Seid.

The Kenyan won the women's event Theresiah Omosa in a time of 2:43:24 hours before Karen Friday, who won the state championship title for the fifth time in a time of 2:45:26 hours (including the third time in the city of Mozart) and thus set a new ÖLV record. Elisabeth Smolle and Sarah Riffel celebrated the further medals. The victories in the Sparkasse half marathon went to the Czech Radim Picek (1:12:21 hours) and the Swiss Renate Wyss (1:26:37 hours), five years ago a World Cup participant in the marathon in Moscow.

Spread over three days, eight different competitions took place as part of the running festival in the city of Mozart. The Salzburg Marathon City was for the second time on Mirabellplatz and in the adjacent Kurgarten, the SportMall@Salzburg Marathon took place again in the Salzburg Congress. Saturday was particularly atmospheric with a successful day of sports, with a highly emotional junior marathon with 1,900 young participants and the Coca-Cola Integration Run, in which over 550 participants sent out a clear statement for sport, integration, inclusion and charity.
