10th Salzburg Marathon (May 5, 2013)

At its anniversary event on May 5, 2013, the Salzburg Marathon celebrated a new, remarkable record of participants. 6,792 runners from 60 nations had registered for the running festival in the city of Mozart; so all continents were represented in Salzburg. The numerous running enthusiasts were rewarded with glorious weather on the Sunday of the marathon; With temperatures above 20°C and bright sunshine, the city of Mozart presented itself from its most beautiful side. The mood on the route was also great: Around 30,000 spectators cheered on the participants along the 21.1 km long loop.

The Kenyan provided the sporting highlight Eliud Kiplagat, who is in a duel with his compatriot John Kipkemoi Kirui prevailed and despite the high temperatures with a finish time of 2:14:16 hours a new one track record marked for the 42.195 km in Salzburg. The Ethiopian took third place Lemawork Ketema Weldearegaye.

In the women's race succeeded Joan Rotich a novelty: last year's Kenyan winner secured victory again in a superior manner and is thus the first woman in the history of the Salzburg Marathon to triumph in two consecutive events. With a final time of 2:36:10 hours, she was exactly two seconds slower than in 2012, but around 27 minutes faster than second place Claudia Kaiser and the third place Cornelia Koepper.

As in the early years, the start and finish area of the 10th Salzburg Marathon was located on the Residenzplatz in the middle of Salzburg's old town, which gave the event a magnificent backdrop. The route otherwise remained unchanged from the previous years.
