14th Salzburg Marathon (May 7, 2017)
6,457 runners from 70 nations celebrated at the "Get active days" of the 14th Salzburg Marathon a great running experience. An attractive program stretched over three days with eight different competitions and various team evaluations, which appealed to every type of runner.
The men's marathon was a straight story for a Kenyan trio who were even on course to set a course record by the half marathon. Early sat down Hosea Rutto by his compatriots Simon Njeri and Abraham Limo and celebrated at a time of 2:17:49 hours a clear victory in the end. It was his second in the current calendar year after winning a marathon in India in January. As the best non-African, the South Tyrolean Helmuth Mair achieved fourth place, Herbert Reiter was sixth and the fastest Austrian in the field.
A dramatic race developed among the women. The Kenyan Pamela Talam, who had been clearly in the lead for a long time, collapsed completely in the final phase and had to pass the Hungarian Olympic participant just before the last corner of the race Tunde Szabo let happen. She was also marked by muscular problems and won in a time of 2:54:06 hours.
The Eritrean, who lives in Germany, celebrated a superior victory Filmon Abraham in the men's half marathon, which he finished in exactly 1:06:34 hours. Fastest marathon runner in the field Conny Koepper, which finished in 1:22:54 hours.
For the first time, the start and finish area of the Salzburg Marathon was in front of Mirabell Palace, while the Salzburg Marathon City was in the adjacent Kurgarten. This gave the event a new character, the compact event, the short distances and the natural atmosphere in the middle of the city set positive accents. The "Sports Day" on Saturday was particularly atmospheric with the "Get active" junior marathon with 1,500 children and young people and the "Get active" integration run as sporting highlights on Saturday evening.
