These was the Running Festival in Mozart City with the 22nd PUMA Salzburg Marathon (18 May 2025)

The Running Festival in Mozart City ended on 18 May with an atmospheric marathon Sunday - a celebration of encounters, movement and enthusiasm. For a whole week, Salzburg was characterised by movement - athletically, socially and economically. Almost 13,000 running enthusiasts from almost 100 nations from all continents turned Salzburg into an international stage for emotional finishes, personal bests and moving stories.

The sporting highlight of the weekend was Lukas Hollaus (Union Salzburg LA), who won the 22nd PUMA Salzburg Marathon with a personal best of 2:17:20 hours despite the difficult conditions with heavy rain and wind in the middle of the race. Hollaus, who lives in Salzburg, switched to marathon running after finishing his triathlon career. The duel between the Sapporo 2021 Olympic participants and last year's winner Peter Herzog (Union Salzburg LA) was cancelled at short notice as Herzog had to cancel his start due to illness. Victory in the women's marathon went to former Austrian marathon record holder Eva Wutti (Club RunAustria). The Carinthian saved herself with her last ounce of strength in a turbulent marathon and missed her own SLV record by one second. Cornelia Stöckl-Moser from Pinzgau took second place in the Linz Marathon five weeks after winning the national championship title.

In the middle of a heavy downpour over Salzburg, the half marathon winners Dominik Hirczy (Lauftreff Nussdorf), a rising Salzburg running talent, and Amelie Muss from Upper Austria, who lives in Salzburg, reached the finish line in front of the Grosses Festspielhaus on Max-Reinhardt-Platz. Annika Leineweber, who studies in Salzburg, won the Hervis 10K CityRun and thus also the combined ranking together with the Salzburg Women's Run, in which she finished second this time as last year's winner. The winner of the 17th Salzburg Women's Run was Marie-Theres Gruber from Tennengau (Union Salzburg LA), who set a clear new course record on the 5.5 kilometre course of the Salzburg Women's Run with a time of 17:58 minutes.

The largest running event ever to take place in Salzburg - registrations for all main competitions had to be closed early due to the huge crowds - also included the GipfelTreffen, the Cup&Cino breakfast run, the PUMA ShakeOutRun, the Bunte Sportpalette with the Junior Marathon and the #OneMileForASmile - Inclusion Run by Coca-Cola on the previous days and the Powerade RelayMarathon on Sunday. With its diverse programme, which was spread over an entire week of activities and included a number of programme highlights outside of the sporting competitions, the Running Festival in Mozart City also appealed to a wide audience in 2025.
