Everything stays different at the Salzburg Marathon 2017

For the first time, the participants in the various events of the Salzburg Marathon will cross the finish line right in front of the magnificent Mirabell Palace. This is also where the start for all competitions apart from the smart-10K Salzburg City-Run is located. With this innovation, the long-established and proven partnership between the Salzburg Marathon and the city of Salzburg is entering a new chapter.

"New home for the running classic"

When deciding on the resettlement that had become necessary, Mayor Dr. Heinz Schaden that this event is particularly important to him: "The marathon is one of the most important sporting flagships in the city of Salzburg, moving thousands of people every year and providing spectacular images of the city. It was a wish of mine and I am therefore particularly pleased that the running classic has found a new home. This ensures the high quality of the event. How important the marathon has become to us is also shown by the fact that we only extended the sponsorship agreement with this flagship event by a further three years at the beginning of February.”

New opportunities and short distances

The relocation of the marathon city to Mirabellplatz offers great new opportunities for the running festival in the city of Mozart. “Thanks to the high event quality and very good value for money, the 'Get active days' have an excellent reputation in the running scene. The new site for our marathon city and the adaptation of the route means an enormous effort for us, but we are a team that has worked well together over the years and harmonizes perfectly. We also feel this good spirit in the discussions with the authorities and the transport companies," says Johannes Langer, organizer of the Salzburg Marathon.

"The advantages of the short distances on the weekend of the event, the moving together of the 'SportMall' runners' fair in the congress center and the individual sporting competitions as well as the 'Day of Sports' with the LSO result in a new qualitative comfort for runners and spectators. Together with the regional organic delicacies and the free use of local public transport, the participants and the spectators can look forward to wonderful days at Salzburg's largest active sports festival," Langer continues.

The tried-and-tested marathon route, which is very much appreciated by the participants and leads directly past the most beautiful squares in the city of Mozart, remains essentially unchanged and has even been optimized by reducing the number of curves.
