"Get active days" at the 14th Salzburg Marathon
A varied program of competitions, which stretches over three days and culminates in the main sporting competitions on May 7th, coupled with an attractive supporting program, meets the needs of all types of runners and invites all Salzburg residents and runners from over 70 nations to actively participate.
Salzburg Marathon gets a new home
The most far-reaching innovation for the 14th edition of Salzburg's largest active sports event is the relocation of the Salzburg Marathon City from Residenzplatz to Mirabellplatz and the adjacent Kurgarten. This gives the running festival in the city of Mozart a completely new ambience. The event benefits enormously from its new compactness and the short distances. The start and finish line for the Salzburg marathon, the Sparkasse half marathon, the “Get active” junior marathon and the “Get active” integration run is right in front of the magnificent Mirabell Palace. The Hervis-10K Salzburg CityRun also finds its destination here, it starts directly at the Leopoldskroner Weiher.
Apart from the relocation of the start and finish line, the half marathon route has changed only slightly compared to the last few years. Shortly after the start, the field of participants is offered an enchanting view of Salzburg's old town when the runners cross the Staatsbrücke coming from the "Platzl". The route then turns left and leads via Rudolfskai and Hellbrunner Allee in the direction of Hellbrunn Palace. The part of the route saved as a result is made up for by extending the route in Maxglan. As a result of this innovation, the route was classified as “flat” for the first time in the official AIMS survey at the beginning of April, since, for example, the short climb from Anton-Neumann-Platz to Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz on the old route is no longer available.
The Salzburger Nachrichten AfterWorkRun, the CUP&CINO breakfast run and the Bio Austria CityWalk have their start and finish area in the Kurgarten directly in front of the entrance to the SportMall@Salzburg Marathon in the Salzburg Congress.
The following statements were made at the press conference on May 2, 2017 in the Salzburger Sparkasse on Rainerstraße:
Markus Saddle | Director of the Salzburg Savings Bank
“A good bank does sports. We live it! Running is one of the healthiest sports and has a positive effect on body and mind. These characteristics are an excellent match for the Sparkasse Salzburg. As in previous years, the Sparkasse Half Marathon is the competition with the most participants in the Salzburg Marathon this year. He creates a perfect mix of professional athletes and recreational runners, and all this against the enchanting backdrop of the city of Salzburg.”

“The Salzburg Marathon is the largest running event in the province of Salzburg. An event that is constantly growing and keeping up with the general running boom. For this reason, we recently extended the funding agreement for another three years. The new start and finish area at Mirabellplatz is an attractive location for the Salzburg Marathon.

The marketing achieves lasting effects for the city's economy and tourism. Thanks to its beautiful route and the magnificent backdrop of the city of Salzburg, the Salzburg Marathon is one of the most beautiful marathons of all - and that is exactly the message that the participants carry out into the whole world."
Mag. Johannes Gfrerer | Press spokesman Salzburger Verkehr
“We are always happy when something moves. Public transport, sport and health harmonize perfectly with each other. Public transport in the core zone of the city of Salzburg will be available to participants next Sunday upon presentation of their start numbers. At the same time, in excellent cooperation with the Salzburg Marathon, we have developed a concept to keep public transport running on the day of the marathon.”
John Langer | Organizer Salzburg Marathon
“The Salzburger Sparkasse and the city of Salzburg are the most loyal and long-standing partners of the Salzburg Marathon and essential pillars of the event. They guarantee planning security and enable the positive development of the event. The relationship of trust with various institutions has grown strongly over the years and is a prerequisite for us being able to master the challenges that the new location of the Salzburg Marathon City at Mirabellplatz brings with it. We are looking forward to a very compact event with short distances for the participants.”
