Salzburg Marathon certified organic for the ninth time

The Salzburg Marathon has received official organic certification for the ninth time in a row, thereby defending its unique selling proposition in the world of marathons. Also this year, the organizer offers high-quality organic food from ingredients of regional production and seasonal availability throughout the weekend. The three dishes - Walser vegetable loaf, "chilly" organic beef with Kukuruz and Beetle beans and Salzburg meatballs with pasta and tomato sauce - will be offered to all participants and spectators in the "Salzburg Bio-Dorf" in the spa garden over the entire weekend.

Maria Grill from the SLK, who came to a positive result in a detailed audit in advance and in a precise check of compliance with the criteria for organic certification, presented the certificate on Friday afternoon to the Salzburg marathon organizers Johannes Langer and Thomas Verwanger, who responsible for the excellent implementation of the gastronomy concept.

Flagship of Salzburg

With the Salzburg Bio-Village, the running festival in the city of Mozart represents an advantage of the region. 57% of the cultivated area in the federal state of Salzburg is farmed organically, which means that the "most beautiful federal state in Austria" achieves the top value within the European Union. “The local, organic cuisine is a flagship of the region. It is very important to us that the advantages of the Salzburg location and its surroundings are optimally represented at the running festival in the city of Mozart,” explains Langer.

“Sport and health are very closely linked. Environmentally conscious and healthy nutrition is the basis for successful running. That's why I would like to thank the Salzburg Marathon for walking this path of sustainability together," explains the deputy managing director of Bio Austria Salzburg, Peter Hecht, and promises: "The participants in the Salzburg Marathon and all Salzburg residents will spend the weekend both sporty and culinary enjoy!"

The bananas and oranges offered at the aid stations of the Salzburg Marathon are high-quality, organic, fair-trade goods.
