Zipser and Knopf won the Hervis 10K CityRun
The Tyrolean Katharina Zipser (SK Rückenwind), who two weeks ago finished the Vienna City Marathon in an excellent tenth place with a personal best of 2:44:41 hours, appeared to have recovered well from the marathon exertion. She dominated the Hervis-10K Salzburg CityRun and reached the finish line after 37:48 minutes as the superior winner. The 35-year-old was almost half a minute below her personal best (according to the statistics of the Austrian Athletics Association), which she set a year and a half ago in Itter in Tyrol. "I'm happy that I won. I felt good, but of course I noticed that the VCM was only two weeks before,” said a satisfied Zipser. "The Hervis-10K Salzburg CityRun impresses with a very nice route and the atmosphere along the course was very motivating," she said afterwards. British Emma Henshaw finished second, four minutes behind, while local hero Therese Wagenleitner (ASV Salzburg LA) was third as Salzburg's best.
Men caused high tension
The men's race was exciting. The victory of Stefan Knopf from Berchtesgaden was only secured on the home stretch in front of the magnificent Mirabell Palace. The German prevailed in a time of 32:57 minutes just ahead of the well-known Salzburg triathlete Andreas Giglmayr (Lauftreff Nussdorf) and the Styrian Hans Wieser (Flinke Horde Gröbming). "I didn't expect this good time at all. I just registered for the Hervis-10K Salzburg CityRun today. There was a great atmosphere along a wonderful route - a run to really enjoy,” said the winner, Stefan Knopf.
Beautiful route panorama
The marathon Sunday of the Salzburg Running Festival opened at 8:45 a.m. with the Hervis-10K CityRun, starting from the Leopoldskroner Weiher. From there, the participants completed the second half of the half marathon route. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Salzburg's old town, Hohensalzburg Fortress, the straight Hellbrunner Allee and Leopoldskron Palace were just a few of the highlights that awaited the runners on the half-marathon route.
