The Salzburg Agricultural Control (SLK) issues the Salzburg Marathon the tenth official organic certification in a row. This impressive series gives the state's largest running event a unique selling point in the world of marathons. It is based on the loyal partnership between Bio Austria Salzburg and the Salzburg Marathon.
Organic, from regional production and seasonal availability - that is the standard for the food that is served to the participants and spectators at the weekend of the Running Festival in the City of Mozart. MSc Lisa Penninger carried out the positive evaluation of the SLK in the form of an official organic certification on Friday afternoon in the Salzburg BioDorf in the Salzburg Marathon City in the Volksgarten. "The certificate confirms the correct, unmixed and traceable use of organic food on the marathon weekend," explains DI Andreas Schwaighofer, Managing Director of Bio Austria Salzburg. "Of course it is a high honor for our organic farmers that the Salzburg Marathon has been offering the highest standard of food for its participants and visitors for a decade. Organic foods are the best, most natural and most sustainable in production and unbeatable in taste and quality,” Schwaighofer continues.
Organic food trucks form the Salzburg organic village
The innovative implementation of the high-quality organic tasting will be carried out this year by four Salzburg organic food trucks, which will offer a varied culinary offer to hungry runners. “The challenge lies in particular in procuring the ingredients in organic quality. This was implemented excellently by the operators of the organic food trucks on site, which is why the entire range of organic food at the Salzburg Marathon was certified,” explains Penninger, who is responsible for inspecting catering establishments at SLK. She presented the official organic certificate to the organizer of the Salzburg Marathon, Johannes Langer.
Organic quality for the best athletic performance
The tasting of high-quality organic food for the participants is important to Langer: “We focus on quality in many areas at the running festival in the city of Mozart. Nutrition is particularly important in the life of sporty people in order to be productive. For a decade now, we have been convinced that organic offers the best quality.” Thanks to many years of cooperation with Bio Austria Salzburg, the largest active sports event in the region represents one of its great strengths. 58% of the farmed agricultural area in the province of Salzburg is farmed organically. This makes the state of Salzburg not only the clear number one in Austria, but also within the European region.
