Atmospheric opening of the running festival
1,164 runners and walkers enjoyed an atmospheric running and walking experience in wonderful conditions with a magical sunset over Salzburg at the sporting opening of the running festival in the city of Mozart. Conny Stöckl-Moser was the quickest to complete the 5.5-kilometer route, starting and finishing in the Volksgarten. Two young Nordic athletes accompanied her to the podium.
The sun shone diagonally through the trees in the Volksgarten as the 1,164 strong field of participants in the eleventh edition of the Salzburg Women's Run started the race in pleasant, spring-like conditions. From the first meter of the competition, top favorite Conny Stöckl-Moser took the lead in the field. Barbara Walchhofer, a young cross-country skier from Altenmarkt im Pongau, courageously followed her heels, but had to pay tribute to the pace of Salzburg's currently best runner after a good kilometer. Stöckl-Moser, who won her first state championship title over this traditional distance five weeks ago at the Linz Marathon, completed the entire distance at a steady pace and reached the finish line in 19:41 minutes. “I took a longer break after the Linz Marathon. The Salzburg Women's Run was my first fast pace unit since then. I managed a great race, I was able to run faster than I would have expected,” the 25-year-old commented on her performance. She particularly emphasized the atmosphere: "I always enjoy coming to the Salzburg Women's Run because the atmosphere here is fantastic."
After the race is before the race
With her third success in a row at the Salzburg women's race, Stöckl-Moser's start to the Salzburg race weekend went very well. On Sunday morning she is at the start of the Hervis-10K Salzburg CityRun and as a favorite she wants to set a brisk pace again. "The good run today gives me hope that I'll be able to do a quick ten kilometers on Sunday," says the Pinzgauer. This makes her the favorite in the combination ranking, which the organizer offers to all runners who want to enjoy the running festival in the city of Mozart twice over with the Salzburg Women's Run and the Hervis-10K Salzburg CityRun.
Running shoes replace cross-country skis
Together with Conny Stöckl-Moser, two young winter athletes climbed the podium of the 11th Salzburg Women's Run. The 21-year-old Barbara Walchhofer, who attended the ski school in Schladming and is currently in the C squad of the Austrian Ski Association, had to pay tribute to the high initial pace, but saved second place in front of Femke Kramer in a running time of 21:37 minutes . "It was my first competition in running and I'm surprised at the great atmosphere in the starting field and how great all the runners were cheered on from the side of the track. That helped me to show a performance that I'm very satisfied with," the Pongauer commented on her race. 15-year-old Kramer was born in Holland and moved to Pinzgau at the age of four. There she attends the ski school in Saalfelden and is a hopeful biathlon talent who is aiming for a professional career. Together with colleagues from her training group, she took part in the Salzburg Women's Run today. "A perfect opportunity for us winter sports enthusiasts to compete in an endurance competition in summer. I'm very happy, I found a good rhythm and was able to keep up the pace until the finish line," Kramer was very happy with her performance.
Kramer wins the U20 classification
The young biathlete also won the U20 ranking ahead of Zsofia Lennert from Hungary, who lives in Bischofshofen, and Eva-Maria Greischberger from Salzburg, who finished sixth and seventh in the overall ranking behind Therese Wagenleitner from Salzburg and Melanie Matheis from Ainring. Former women's race winner Helena Dutka crossed the finish line in eighth place in a time of 23:20 minutes.
Proven mood, proven emotions
1,164 participants in the 5.5-kilometer running competition and on "Woman walks!" by Bio Austria provided a fantastic start full of positive emotions into the weekend of the running festival in the city of Mozart. Thanks to the well-known special atmosphere at the Salzburg Women's Run, a noticeable women's power was sparked, in which the focus was on enjoying the joint running or walking experience.
The 11th Salzburg Women's Run took place for the first time as part of the Salzburg Marathon weekend. However, the change of date did not result in a drop in participants, but rather in a surprising increase in the number of registrations for the 5.5 km competition compared to the previous year. The route led from the Volksgarten along the Salzach to the Wilhelm-Kaufmann-Steg, on the opposite bank back to the Karolinen Bridge and directly to the finish line.
Climax of the movement action "Frau läuft!"
The Salzburg Women's Run is traditionally the high point of the year-round activity "Frau läuft!", which has motivated numerous women and girls in the state of Salzburg to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle for over a decade. Together with the loyal charity partner Österreichische Krebshilfe Salzburg, she sends out a strong message for exercise and health and emphasizes the positive effect of regular exercise on women's breast health.
