
Sensational family sports day
The record starting field at the Salzburg Junior Marathon, a successful charity initiative at the Coca-Cola integration run with many emotional and moving stories and a great sports day in which 16 Salzburg sports associations and clubs took part with a diverse and attractive sports program formed together a sensational family sports day as part of the 16th Salzburg Marathon. “It was a sensational day here in the Volksgarten. Everyone who came here today goes home with many great impressions and experiences. In particular, the more than 2,000 children and young people who, with a great deal of enthusiasm, produced fantastic emotions in the junior marathon races and experienced running in a perfect, atmospheric setting. The crowning glory was the Coca-Cola integration run with over 500 participants who, together with the running festival in the city of Mozart and the nine charity initiatives of our partners in favor of needy children, sent out a strong message for integration of all kinds, inclusion, health and joie de vivre". , organizer Johannes Langer enthusiastically summed up the day.
Over 2,000 children and young people for the first time
Never before have so many children and young people actively participated in the Salzburg Junior Marathon. Divided into different age groups, 2,006 registered young runners completed either one lap (U8 and U10) or two laps (U12, U14, U16, U18) through the Volksgarten. Parents and spectators, who sometimes stood in several rows at the edge of the track, were enthusiastic about their refreshing commitment, their joy in movement and their smile at the moment when they had the finisher medal hung around their necks, with lots of applause and loud cheers for them created an excellent atmosphere. The enchanted start was made by the participants in the mini marathon (U6), who completed a 500-metre lap around the Volksgartenteich.
"One Mile for a Smile"
The very emotional conclusion of the program was the Coca-Cola integration run. According to the motto "One Mile for a Smile", the participants supported one of nine charity projects of the charity partners of the Salzburg Marathon for the benefit of needy children and young people in Salzburg, Austria, Ghana, Kenya, Peru and India. The charity organizations raised the donations for their projects by selling the start numbers directly at a defined minimum price. A colorful starter field full of diversity and with over 500 participants sent out a clear signal for integration, inclusion and health.
Salzburg sport meets an ingenious stage
The Salzburg Marathon and the state sports organization have been jointly organizing the Sports Day since 2015. The largest running event in the federal state offers a grandiose stage for Salzburg sport, which was represented this year by 16 associations and clubs, who presented their offers to try out and try out. They gave spectacular and entertaining performances on the Salzburg Marathon stage. Spread over the entire afternoon, around 2,500 children and young people came into direct contact with Salzburg sport. The new venue for the family sports day in the spacious Volksgarten gave the Sports Day a wide range of opportunities for a varied and exciting program - from standup paddling to beach volleyball, American football, hockey and fencing to disabled sports - to name a few. In bright sunshine, the outstanding atmosphere in the Volksgarten created a summer festival atmosphere dedicated to sport and movement.
Running Sightseeing
On Saturday morning, several dozen participants ran at a leisurely pace on one of the four routes offered through the city of Mozart and enjoyed exclusive sightseeing at a run, including expert explanations from the guides. The joint finale was a delicious breakfast in the CUP&CINO breakfast run, which was included in the entry fee.
