Lauf.Sport.Fest.Salzburg from October 1st to 3rd
The new running event from October 1st to 3rd, 2021 is the culmination of a year-round exercise initiative by Club RunAustria, which offers a wide range of running enthusiasts and those who want to become one throughout the state of Salzburg. "Salzburg is running!" 2021! Even if not as part of the traditional running festival in the city of Mozart in May. The largest active sports event in Salzburg will not return to the running stage in its proven form until the weekend of May 15, 2022. A 10K elite race is planned for May 16, 2021.
Run.Sport.Fest.Salzburg is an event with a strong signal for all running friends who are looking forward to an exciting and eventful running event in the state capital. An event that emphasizes and celebrates diversity and peaceful coexistence. That categorically excludes violence and agitation, any kind of exclusion and hostility as well as a division into black and white. An event that appeals to everyone with a colorful variety of offers and represents a clear commitment to a humanistic image of man and to an understanding of sport in terms of community, voluntariness, solidarity and intergenerational balance. "As a running community, we can fit into the current challenges of our society quite well. At the same time, I and my highly motivated team are convinced that our initiative will trigger an impulse that will affect many areas of our social interaction, physical and mental health as well as smart tourism with an effect on the hotel industry, trade and gastronomy," emphasizes the organizer and initiator Johannes Langer.

Salzburg is running!”
Run.Sport.Fest.Salzburg is the pinnacle of a year-round exercise initiative "Salzburg is running!" from Club RunAustria. On March 8, 2021, the content and program highlights will be presented online. Of course, the regulations of the Ministry of Health are observed and implemented accordingly at the respective time. The risk of possible cancellations remains, depending on how the situation develops in the coming months.
As the number one popular sport, running also has enormous integration potential and great social importance, not just in terms of health, thanks to its easy accessibility. "Salzburg is running!", will be extended to all districts in Salzburger Land in cooperation with sponsors and running partners. It is the ideal ground for meeting and mutual exchange for all interested parties in the province of Salzburg.
Next Salzburg Marathon on May 15, 2022
In consultation with the Deputy Mayor Bernhard Auinger, who is responsible for sports, the planning for the running festival for the weekend of May 16, 2021 has been stopped in its original form due to the current pandemic restrictions, which offer no prospects for major events in spring 2021. "Unfortunately, the Salzburg Marathon, like many other cultural and sporting events, could not take place in 2020. The city of Salzburg has been a cooperation partner of the Salzburg Marathon since 2004 and has been a loyal companion from the very beginning. This will remain the case even in the difficult year 2021. Since serious and realistic planning of the Salzburg Marathon for May 2021 is not or hardly possible for the organizer, we will be happy to support the two alternative running events. Johannes Langer and his team do an excellent job, not only for the city of Salzburg, but for thousands of running enthusiasts. Especially in times of the pandemic, running is booming as an important health and social policy component. Therefore, the cancellation of the Salzburg Marathon is also a painful financial loss for the city of Salzburg," says Deputy Mayor Bernhard Auinger.
The Salzburg Marathon and the wide range of exercise offered by the Running Festival in the City of Mozart will be postponed to the weekend of May 15, 2022. On his own initiative, organizer Johannes Langer has declared his willingness to extend the validity of the voucher solution decided by the Austrian government last year for all those who were registered for the canceled running festival in the city of Mozart in 2020 by one year up to and including 2023.
May 16, 2021 - a real elite race and a virtual 10km run
The relocation of the major event does not mean that organized running in Salzburg will stop in the coming months. “We are all subject to the demands of our time, which we have to accept - and do. Nevertheless, on the one hand we want to show that it is possible to work together under the highest possible conditions, and on the other hand we want to give the many people who have rediscovered or strengthened running in the last few months a sporting goal as additional motivation," says John Langer. In addition to the initiative "Salzburg is running!" an elite race with a limited number of participants over ten kilometers is planned for May 16 in the city of Mozart. The Salzburg Olympic marathon participant, Peter Herzog, is looking forward to this race: “If you train for a competition, competitions are an important confirmation of the work you put into the sport. That's why I very much welcome the fact that there are invitational competitions for performance-oriented runners. They are very popular. And if I can get a competition in my home country that I can use to build up my form towards the Olympics, that's even better."
In addition, Langer and his team are preparing an attractive package for virtual participation in the Salzburg_10K. More information will follow at an appropriate time. "I wish the organizing team a healthy and sporting year for 2021, which not only the running fans deserve," adds Auinger.
